Where do these scents come from?
Developing the Ukwimi brand happened organically — there was no urgent push to establish the brand. I tinkered with things I loved: scents. The tinkering sunk me in a world I loved, wanted to learn more about and wanted to share with people.
Ukwimi is inspired by what is around me here in Zambia, drawing further from the continent and all the magnificent botanicals that grow here. Of course, I use many more that are not from this continent, but I try to incorporate what I can as much as possible. I long for the day I can make an enfleurage of Jacaranda blooms. That’ll be an incredible undertaking, but a girl can dream, right?
Ukwimi started in 2020. Think about it – how ridiculous was it to start developing scent products when the world was rocked by a disease that affected our sense of smell?
But when the world was grappling with an incredible pandemic, I started on a new journey, and though it’s had stops and starts, moments of inspiration and doubt, it’s here for us all to enjoy.
Ukwimi was inspired by Africa and uses African products in the production line as much as possible.
Ukwimi is – finally – with us all.
