On a chilly afternoon in 2020, I had a fleeting thought: how does one make perfumes? I have loved perfume for so long, but before then I hadn’t tapped into my curiosity on the process how they’re made. That was then.
That question sent me on a journey of discovery.
Every day for months, I’d create tinctures, blend essential oils and read to learn about the expansive world of perfume and how fragrance blends are crafted. I spent hours smelling and blending, blending and smelling, all with the aim of creating fragrances that I loved, and were all botanical-based.
It was months of learning materials, sharpening my nose to understand the components of materials, and before long, I could imagine pairings of oils or scents to create blends.
As I grew in my knowledge, I became more confident in my vision to create natural, botanical perfumes using as many African ingredients as I could find to enjoy and celebrate the beauty on this continent.
There is a small number of Ukwimi fragrances and that number is growing; the perfumes are changing and developing.
I love these perfumes and the other products in the Ukwimi range. I hope you’ll love them, too.
